| Y U So Pink?! |
This is the problem. There is currently a large (though unmeasured) demographic with buying power that is untapped due to the undesirable nature of current Hasbro products. All show-related merchandise is terribly inaccurate and not something that many of those outside of the target demographic would want to purchase or possess.
Out of all problems, though, comes a customer need, and out of a need comes opportunity!
Have some statistics:
- There are currently more than 16,100 likes on the Brony Facebook page.
- 134,000 Facebook fans of My Little Pony proper, combined (Bronies and other fans)
- Equestria Daily has nearly 85 million hits!
In PurpleTinker's merchandise survey back in April, just under 90% of respondents, both male and female, expressed interest in "Improved Figurines" as a potential product. There is an almost equal interest in pony-related "knickknacks"
All in all, it is clear that there are customer needs that are not yet met; additionally, indications show that it might just be economically advantageous to pay more attention to our new demographic. I believe this warrants further study, and what better way to do that than to get a product on those shelves and see how it sells? In order to do that, however, it has to be something that the fans would want... (intentionally trailing sentence) which is what we'll look at in the next few posts! Stay tuned.
